The SparkFun Distance Sensor Breakout - 4 m, VL53L1X (Qwiic) utilizes the advanced VL53L1X Time of Flight (ToF) sensor module from STMicroelectronics to provide highly accurate distance measurements over long ranges. This sensor employs a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) to emit an infrared laser, timing the reflection to determine the distance to an object with millimeter precision. It can measure distances from 40mm to 4m with an accuracy of approximately +/-5mm. Communication is facilitated exclusively via I2C, using the Qwiic system, which eliminates the need for soldering. For those who prefer traditional methods, 0.1”-spaced pins are available for breadboard use.

The sensor features a narrow field of view between 15° and 27° and can read at rates up to 50Hz. It requires a power supply of 2.6V-3.5V for operation. The SparkFun Qwiic Connect System, an ecosystem of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables, simplifies prototyping by reducing errors and saving PCB space with its 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connectors. Additionally, the VL53L1X Distance Sensor Breakout can be automatically detected, scanned, configured, and logged using the OpenLog Artemis datalogger system without the need for programming or soldering.

Note: Ensure the protective sticker on the VL53L1X is removed before use to avoid inaccurate readings.
